Detroit Lakes:
Detroit Lakes boasts one of the prime recreational areas, not only in Minnesota, but across the nation. Residents and tourists alike take advantage of the excellent fishing, boating, canoeing, swimming, sailing, and water skiing facilities here. One of the unique features of this community is that it has one of the few parks found in the Nation devoted to the Grand Army of the Republic.
Rededication:
The Detroit Lakes GAR Park will be rededicated in April 2015 to mark the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War.
The City of Detroit Lakes and local organizations have joined the Colonel (Ret) Tom and Pam Mortenson Foundation in providing improvements to the GAR Park.
